From concept to production, bf1systems design and develop its sensor solutions entirely in-house. Having everything under our control allows us to quickly develop custom solutions for customers, where an off-the-shelf is not suitable for specific applications.
In this article we will explore two examples of where custom solutions were quickly provided to customers to meet their specific requirements.
High-Bandwidth Pressure Measurement for Cooling System Analysis
A WEC Customer approached bf1systems, they were having difficulties understanding an intermittent behavior within their cooling system. The customer was already running our ASHT combined pressure and temperature sensor, and whilst the specification was fine for race and test use, the bandwidth of the sensor did not allow for the intermittent behavior to be understood in detail.
After discussing the application and measurement objectives in detail, bf1systems modified the existing sensor design to increase bandwidth and produced a small batch of custom sensors specifically for a targeted test.
The sensors were delivered quickly, installed immediately and enabled the customer to identify the source of the intermittent behaviour within the cooling system, allowing the issue to be resolved with confidence.
Fast Response Temperature Measurement Inside Brake Ducts
An open wheel race team required an accurate, fast responsive sensor to measure the temperature inside their brake ducts. After analysing the available sensors on the market, the team selected bf1systems’ NTC2F temperature sensor due to its rapid response characteristics, despite it being more commonly used in powertrain applications.
The threaded sensor design allowed straightforward integration into the brake duct via a mounting boss. However, to ensure accurate readings, the sensor required some customisation. The Peek tip was extended to be longer than the standard part, to ensure the sensing element sat centrally within the duct and further away from surrounding heat sources, which may have otherwise affected the measurement accuracy.
The sensor design was modified and parts produced in less than 6 weeks, from initial discussion to finished production, this enabled reliable temperature measurement in a challenging environment.
