Renewable Energy

bf1systems has taken a proactive approach to reducing operational emissions, delivering measurable results through targeted investment in renewable energy.

Following carbon footprint analysis, electricity consumption was identified as a key driver of Scope 2 emissions. In response, 416 solar photovoltaic panels were installed at the Diss site in 2020 as part of a wider decarbonisation strategy.

Since installation, the system has generated over 587,000 kWh of renewable electricity, avoiding approximately 606 tonnes of CO₂e*. This cumulative saving is more than 2.3 times greater than the company’s total annual carbon footprint, demonstrating the scale of impact achieved through a targeted intervention.

Further reductions have been delivered through the transition to 100% renewable electricity tariffs, implemented at Diss in 2024 and Grantham in 2025. Together, these actions ensure that all electricity used across UK operations is sourced from renewable generation.

Beyond carbon reduction, this approach has strengthened energy resilience, reduced exposure to price volatility, and supported operational stability. It also contributes directly to bf1systems’ science-based emissions reduction targets.

This case study demonstrates how a data-driven approach to decarbonisation, combined with targeted investment, can deliver significant environmental and commercial benefits. bf1systems continues to build on this progress, expanding renewable energy generation and efficiency initiatives to support long-term net zero ambitions.

“bf1 continues to identify opportunities to reduce its environmental impact and the move to 100% renewable energy through onsite generation and purchased supply is just one of many examples of delivering its commitment to actively reduce its carbon footprint.”
